30% Club Malaysia recently held a meet-up with both long-standing and new volunteers, bringing together individuals united by a shared commitment to advancing gender-balanced leadership.
The session opened with a simple icebreaker before moving into meaningful conversations about volunteerism, purpose-driven action, and the role each of us plays in sustaining this business-led movement. While progress has been encouraging, there is still more to be done.
30% Club Malaysia Chair, Nurul Ain Abdul Latif said that more voices, stronger collaboration, and the continued sharing of best practices are needed to keep the momentum going.
“It was heartening to see volunteers, both long-standing and new, stepping forward and reaffirming their commitment to the movement. Together, we move forward through continued conversation, collaboration, and action,” she said.
During the session, two volunteers shared their personal journeys with the 30% Club Malaysia.
Catherine Moo, a Scholarship Recipient of the Shaping Entrepreneurial Women Scholarship awarded by the 30% Club Malaysia in collaboration with Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University), shared how the experience broadened her perspective on leadership and governance.
Through programmes such as the Board Awareness Programme and speed mentoring sessions, she gained practical insights into senior leadership and board readiness. She later returned as a volunteer, contributing to programme delivery and supporting initiatives such as registrations – a meaningful way of giving back to the movement.
Dr Janice Lim, from the Activate pillar (of the 30% Club Malaysia), reflected on her long-standing engagement with the movement – first connecting in 2015 and 2016, re-engaging in 2023, and later joining as a mentee in 2024.
Inspired by the openness of the programmes and the willingness of leaders to share their experiences, she decided to step forward as a volunteer. Balancing time commitments, she found the journey rewarding, gaining informal mentorship, expanding her network, and building meaningful connections across organisations.
Their stories were a powerful reminder that the movement thrives on commitment, generosity, and a shared belief in creating a more sustainable leadership pipeline.
