About U.S. 30% Club

The U.S. 30% Club launched in June 2014 with a goal of achieving 30% female directors on S&P 100 boards by 2020. Surpassing our goal, as of March 2021 30.47% of S&P 100 board directors are women, up from 20.2% at launch. Additionally, all S&P 100 boards have at least one female director. Even more encouraging, the U.S. membership has achieved an average of 33.70% women on their boards, up from 21.7% when it launched – a testament to what business leaders are able to achieve when they commit to driving change.

While we’ve achieved our target representation of female directors on S&P 100 boards, there is still much work to be done in boardrooms across the country, with S&P 500 numbers moving at a glacial pace.

Key Initiatives

Overview

The U.S. 30% Club Mission Gender Equity Mentoring Program aims to advance and improve inclusion and diverse representation in the workplace and is run by mentoring, development and inclusion experts at Moving Ahead and sponsored by Bloomberg. We focus on gender diversity in order to build and strengthen necessary pipelines and achieve parity of women in leadership and board roles.

The program matches women from all levels of the career pyramid to mentors from another organization. Wrapping its first year, the 2020/2021 cohort  supported a total of 310 mentors and mentees across 30 organizations including Australia and New Zealand Banking Group, Bank of America, Boston Consulting Group, BNY Mellon, Citi, Edelman, EY, Fidelity, HSBC Bank, Mastercard and Thomson Reuters. Since the nine-month program began in March, 2021, 34% of mentees have said they have been promoted, moved role, or expanded their job responsibilities.

Overview

A critical barrier for women seeking board appointments in the U.S. is a lack of connections and access to sitting board members who have influence over the nomination and selection of directors. As an extension of the 30% Club Future Female Directors program, the 30% Club is partnering with Catalyst to move board-ready female candidates into the Catalyst Women on Board program. This program, with an impressive track record of over 50% of alumnae appointed to at least one corporate board, creates these key connections that help women build those all-important board networks. Qualified women board candidates are paired with seasoned corporate directors for two years. 30% Club chairmen and CEO members are showing support for this initiative by volunteering as mentors in the Women on Board program.
