Malaysia has highest percentage women board members in Asia

A recent study highlights that Malaysia has the highest percentage of women on company boards in Asia, a significant milestone in the region’s journey toward gender equality in corporate leadership.

According to a study by Deloitte and 30% Club, Malaysia leads Asia in women’s representation on company boards, with board seats held by women reaching 26% – the highest proportion in the region. This puts Malaysia ahead of countries like Singapore, China, and Japan.

The study, which analysed data from nearly 10,500 companies in over 50 countries, highlights Malaysia’s progress toward gender diversity in leadership. It also shows that government-linked investment companies (GLICs) have played a key role in driving inclusion, particularly through policy direction and setting voluntary targets.

While Malaysia ranks 23rd globally, the report notes that progress in Asia remains slow overall. Still, Malaysia’s performance offers a strong example of how focused national efforts and leadership accountability can help move the dial.
