Executive 30% Club Australia
The executive search group is focused on how executive search consultants (ESCs) can promote emerging and current female directors and develop the systems, practices and processes that enable women to be appointed to boards. Individual members ensure diverse candidates are included on the long and shortlists provided to the chairs of the board and remuneration and nominations committees. The group is also committed to working with chairs and boards on succession planning and developing their network of female board aspirants.
The purpose of the Investors Group is to help coordinate the investment community’s approach to gender diversity. In particular, to explain the investment case for more diverse boards; to encourage all investors to engage on the issue of board diversity with chairs and management teams and to consider diversity when voting on the Report & Accounts and the appointment and re-election of board members.
Whilst we are strongly supportive of voluntary targets over quotas, we believe that it is important that investors actively oversee companies’ actions. We encourage investors to engage directly with companies in the first instance. However, we believe that, over time, this should extend to AGM voting in the event of inadequate board leadership.
We are calling for the investment community to follow the principles of the statement of intent and to use to investor toolkit in their conversations with Boards and CEOs.
1. Statement of Intent for Investors: which outlines the beliefs and objectives that the members of the 30% Club Investors Working Group have agreed to. We invite other fund managers and asset owners to pledge support to the principles in this Statement;
2. Investor toolkit for engaging board on diversity: this toolkit has been provided to help investors, and those representing them, more effectively engage with boards of directors on this important issue.
The aim of the education working group is to influence and support ASX 200 chairs and non-executive directors through:
Please read our latest publication: Leading by Example: Insights on board diversity from ASX 200 chairs that have 30 per cent women on their boards.
Members of the Chair’s liaison group actively engage with ASX 200 chairs to increase the number of women on their boards. They seek to positively influence the chairs by promoting the benefits of board diversity and the actions and ownership chairs’ need to take to ensure the successful appointment of female directors.
The Professional Services Working Group is focused on how the leading professional service firms in Australia can best support the 30% Club Australia’s objective of 30% women on ASX 200 boards by the end of 2018.
The group is working on a number of initiatives including providing education forums for women working in professional services firms to help them better understand the experiences they should plan to obtain for a potential future board career, undertaking research of the composition of the ASX 200 Audit & Risk Committees and considering whether a statement on diversity can be included in year end reporting.
Please read our latest publication called the ASX 200 Director Snapshot, detailing the backgrounds, skills and experiences of ASX 200 directors.
There’s a diversity and inclusion revolution going on across the globe, and men have an important role to play in this - as leaders, husbands, partners, and fathers. We know that for many men, including senior leaders within Australia, the driver for gender equality and greater inclusion is still uncomfortable for them, and we want to make the transition easier.
At our breakfast event you will hear from Dr Michael Kimmel, one of the world’s leading researchers and authors on gender equality, men and masculinity.
The breakfast is being held at PwC, One International Towers, Barangaroo, Sydney from 8am - 9.30am.
If you are interested in attending this event please email Rhian Richardson at email@example.com
Panellists at the event will discuss non-financial targets; executive remuneration; and the interplay of proxy advisors, investors and chairs of the board and remuneration committees. Non-financial targets and the structures adopted by some ASX 200 companies were openly debated during the 2016 AGM season. The event will provide an opportunity to hear differing viewpoints around non-financial targets and how CEOs should be rewarded for their focus on culture, diversity, customer engagement and employee satisfaction.
The Australian chapter of the 30% Club is celebrating its 2 year anniversary in May. Although the 30 per cent target is yet to be reached, progress has been made and we have much to celebrate.
Panellists at the event will discuss how governments and government entities can work with the private sector to drive an increase in the representation of women on boards. Significant progress has been made in countries that have introduced quotas, but can change be achieved voluntarily or encouraged without regulation?
